Varkalas boats in general
Varkalas is a medium or large size traditional boat type with a transom stern. Varkalas-type boats were predominantly built on East Aegean islands up utnil the middle of the 20th century. Today, very few examples survive.
Built in Skiathos i1927, Aghios Dimitrios was used for the transportation of wine until 1962 and as a fishing boat thereafter. Today, there is provision for Aghios Dimitrios to be included in the exhibits of the Aegean Shipbuilding and Marine Crafts Museum in Samos.
