Description

The structural form of the stern is the main classification criterion for traditional boats

Karavoskaro boats in general

Karavoskaro is a type of traditional boat with an elliptical stern. The construction of a karavoskaro requires design in a shipyard hall. At the stern the footrest is straight low while at the height of the deck it is elliptical. There are different types and variations and those used for fishing are called “anemotrata”.

This design represents a model fishing liberty (anemotrata) from Syros in scale 1:20 after Damianidis, K. (1998). Greek Vernacular Boatbuilding. Piraeus Bank Cultural Foundation, Figs.81 & 83, pages 74-75.
